Animal
Health Act 2002 received Royal Assent on 7th November 2002.
The scrapie provisions are introduced in Part 2 of the Act and covered
in detail in the Schedule. These provide enabling powers for the introduction
of compulsory genotyping.
The TSE (England) Regulations 2006 came into force on 3 May 2006.
The TSE (Scotland) Regulations 2006 came into force on 24 November 2006.
The TSE (Wales) Regulations 2006 came into force on 3 May 2006.
The Community TSE Regulation 999/2001 aimed to provide a secure legal basis for the full range of Community measures against Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSEs). Many of its provisions were already in force under UK legislation, but for the sake of clarity and completeness, most relevant pieces of UK legislation have been consolidated into this set of Regulations, adjusted where necessary to take account of EU requirements.
The Sheep and
Goats Spongiform Encephalopathy (England and Wales) (Compensation) Order
2001
this amends the Sheep and Goats Spongiform Encephalopathy (Compensation)
Order 1998 in relation to England and Wales by providing that the amount
of compensation paid to owners of scrapie affected animals shall be increased
to £30 for cull animals and £90 for any other animal.
The
Sheep and Goats Spongiform Encephalopathy (Scotland) (Compensation) (Amendment)
Order 2001
this amends the Sheep and Goats Spongiform Encephalopathy (Compensation)
Order 1998 in relation to Scotland by providing that the amount of compensation
paid to owners of scrapie affected animals shall be increased to £30
for cull animals and £90 for any other animal.
The
Sheep and Goats Spongiform Encephalopathy Order 1998
this provides for the compulsory slaughter of scrapie affected animals.
The
Sheep and Goats Spongiform Encephalopathy Regulations 1998
these provide for a veterinary investigation of premises where scrapie
is suspected. This will facilitate research into the epidemiology of the
disease.
The
Sheep and Goats Spongiform Encephalopathy (Compensation) Order 1998
this details the arrangements for the payment of compensation to owners
of scrapie affected animals.
