National Scrapie Plan: Schemes & Initiatives
In order to facilitate the eradication of TSEs like scrapie,
the NSP has devised an ongoing programme of different schemes.
It is envisaged that the number of schemes will increase as the NSP develops. See below for more information on individual schemes and initiatives.
- Flock Register Scheme - Open to all purebred and crossbred flocks
- Ram Genotyping Scheme for Purebred Flocks - Open to owners of purebred flocks
- Rare Breeds Genotype Survey - Genotype Survey - now closed to new applicants

Semen Genotyping - Service provided for genotype testing of stored semen from rams that are dead or no longer owned

Semen Archive - Storage of semen from scrapie susceptible rams

Ewe Genotyping Service - A one-off genotyping service for ewes - now closed to new applicants

Welsh Ewe Genotyping Scheme II - Ewe genotyping for Welsh NSP members

Voluntary Scrapie Flocks Scheme - The closing date for applications was 31 March 2005. Applications will no longer be accepted. Voluntary scheme open to owners whose flocks have had a confirmed case of scrapie from July 1998 up to 19 July 2004 in England and Scotland (1 November in Wales)

Compulsory Scrapie Flocks Scheme - Implementation of EU legislation whereby all owners of flocks with reported new or further case of scrapie from 20 July 2004 in England and Scotland (1 November in Wales) that is subsequently confirmed will be registered automatically with this scheme
