Activities of the England Cattle Health and Welfare Group (ECHAWG)

The EIG has encouraged livestock sectors to take a coordinated and strategic approach to health and welfare to meet their own ends while supporting the delivery of the overarching Animal Health and Welfare Strategy (AHWS) for Great Britain Adobe acrobat pdf file (1.2 MB).

In response, representatives of the beef and dairy industry, and supporting trades, have formed the England Cattle Health and Welfare Group (ECHAWG), which met for the first time on 9 November 2006.

ECHAWG meetings

ECHAWG has published an action plan Adobe acrobat pdf file (18 KB)  based on the group’s own priorities for intervention.  They have chosen to focus on areas where there is a lack of strategic leadership.

Cattle Health and Welfare Strategy Council (CHAWSC)

CHAWSC is an industry-led group with representation from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. As the implementation of the AHWS will vary from country to country, a collaborative group such as CHAWSC was deemed to be more effective at driving forward the cattle health agenda. The group met for the first time on 22 January 2007.
