Delivering and enforcing the Animal Health and Welfare Strategy: annual report to Parliament on prosecutions

report for 2006Defra has a legal responsibility under Section 80 of the Animal Health Act 1981 to produce an annual report for Parliament (presented to both the House of Lords and the House of Commons). The report covers England & Wales, and includes details of compensation paid for animals slaughtered to prevent the spread of disease. It also includes details on legal proceedings taken by Local Authorities which have resulted in criminal convictions under animal health and welfare related legislation.

The report for 2007 (280 KB), published by Defra and laid before Parliament on 31st March 2008 is available online.

Previous reports to Parliament for 2001 (180 KB), 2002 (180 KB), 2003 (241 KB), 2004 (225 KB), 2005 (180 KB) and 2006 are also available.

Local Authorities should submit details of convictions half yearly at the end of June and the end of December on Form AH134 (Please note this is a Word document). Guidance on the completion of the form is available (27 KB).
