Defra

Defra has a legal responsibility under Section 80 of the Animal Health Act 1981 to produce an annual report for Parliament (presented to both the House of Lords and the House of Commons). The report covers England & Wales, and includes details of compensation paid for animals slaughtered to prevent the spread of disease. It also includes details on legal proceedings taken by Local Authorities which have resulted in criminal convictions under animal health and welfare related legislation.

Local Authorities should submit details of convictions half yearly at the end of June and the end of December on Form AH134 (Please note this is a Word document). Guidance on the completion of the form is available (27 KB).
