AHVLA launches competition for the development of a mobile ‘app’

AHVLA has launched a competition to identify possible opportunities to develop mobile applications (‘apps’) which will assist the agency in achieving it objectives of protecting animal and public health and supporting a sustainable livestock industry.

AHVLA holds and manages significant amounts of information on systems which have required major investment in order to ensure that they meet statutory and disease control requirements. Discussions have identified areas where opportunities may exist to better exploit this data through the development of effective mobile applications.

In order to help overcome some of the barriers to doing so, funding towards development costs of up to £20,000 is being made available, with the maximum single award being £10,000. Awards will be made on the successful launch of the working application.

AHVLA’s Chief Information Officer Julie Pierce said: ‘Through making ‘seed’ funding available, we are looking to exploit our information and systems more effectively. By helping those with expertise in this field identify the opportunities that may exist, and ultimately to implement them, we are enabling the sort of innovation that will help us to better support the livestock farming industry.

Anyone wishing to enter the competition can find further details on the mobile app development competition page.

The competition closes on 8 March 2013.
