News and events: Special lifetime achievement award
2008 lifetime achievement award
A Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Jerry Simpson, who has spent more than 10 years as a volunteer Wildlife Crime Officer with Norfolk Constabulary. Jerry has been involved in most of the major wildlife investigations that have taken place in Norfolk during that time.
Cases included the successful prosecution of a defendant who had collected more than 3,000 eggs which were taken from a conservation area where nightingale and nightjar numbers had been decimated. Another case investigated by Jerry was the widely publicised Barclay case which resulted in a custodial sentence for one of the defendants.
Paying tribute to Jerry, ACC Kevin Wilkins said All of Jerry's excellent WCO work over the years has been voluntary, on top of his extremely high work load and often in his own time. "At a time when getting volunteers is so important and yet so hard, it is very fortunate for Norfolk, a large county full of important and abundant wildlife, to have had Jerry as a Wildlife Crime Officer. "He surely deserves such recognition for all the hard work, enthusiasm and commitment shown over the years."
